I get this error when I try to enter the game. I tried disabling cloud saving and deleting some folders, but that didn't help.

Follow up questions: Have you ever successfully booted up the game in the past?
What is your operating system?
Are you running Norton or Avast Antivirus software?
How did you acquire the game?
Have you used any third-party programs such as CheatEngine or similar?
No, I haven't been able to launch the game successfully yet. It was purchased last night and launched for the first time. There are no antivirus programs installed on the laptop. There are no third-party programs. And the operating system is Windows 10
I'll get this sent over to the team!
Heyo! This seems to be an edge case Windows 10 issue that might relate to your OS being out of date or otherwise some drivers that need updating. Can you ensure you're on the latest Windows 10 patch and that your drivers are up to date?
Oh, there's another possibility... It might be that your game is unable to view hidden files. Try launching the game as an administrator. If that doesn't work, try enabling the viewing of hidden files on your OS. You should be able to do so via these steps:
I've already messed around with hidden files and game files. Reinstalling, checking file integrity... It didn't work. The driver and Windows solution sounds like the most likely solution. I just hoped until the very end that this wasn't it.
Did that end up working?
Absolutely and definitely not.
Sorry for the trouble! We might have a temporary fix while we diagnose the issue.
We've had one other person experience this issue also on Windows 10, and they were able to resolve it by running the game as an administrator (via right-clicking the game's .exe file in the directory where Steam installed it). Let me know if that works for you!
In the meantime, we'd be grateful if you could provide a dxdiag file so we could get some info on your system, we might be able to crosscheck against this other user to see if there is a commonality between your two devices that might be causing this issue.
Google should have a breakdown of how to get the dxdiag text file in its overview at this link: https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+run+dxdiag&oq=how+to+run+dxdiag
