Privacy

Privacy management requires login

Verifiable access to your account is what proves that you are the account holder (see our Security Page). Without that, we cannot provide any information to you about the account in question, nor allow you to take any action on that account. Even if you aren't exercising rights on your Bscotch accounts we need to be able to verify your identity before you contact us. To do so you can make a Rumpus account, which you can always delete once your questions have been answered and your rights exercised.

Privacy rights for EU versus non-EU citizens

While the privacy-strict GDPR regulation only applies to EU citizens, and more recent U.S. laws only apply to individual U.S. States, we believe everyone should have the same privacy rights. We have the same, human-centric privacy practices no matter where you live.

Privacy Practices

The Privacy Support page covers a lot of specific questions, and our Privacy Policy covers all the rest. If after carefully reading through all of that material you have further questions, please ask us!

Opt Out of Marketing/Advertising

We have removed advertisements from all games and services under our direct control. If you have accounts with us, or have signed up for our Telegrams, we may send you alerts when we launch new games or major game updates, among other kinds of optional materials. You can opt out of those emails by changing your Telegram or in-game settings. If you opt out of all such emails but have accounts with us, we will still need to send you emails regarding important account information. If you don't want any emails from us, ever, then deleting your accounts and opting out of Telegrams will purge you from our systems completely.

Find out if we have data about you

If you have a BscotchID and/or Rumpus account, then YES, we have data about you (see how to download your data)! If you do not have accounts with us, then we only have data about you if you have directly emailed us, filled out one of our forms/surveys, or otherwise explicitly shared something with us.

If you have deleted your BscotchID/Rumpus account(s), all associated data has been deleted or anonymized, or will be deleted within 30 days if it is in log files or backups.

Non-account data (such as direct emails or surveys you've sent us) are not deleted by account deletion, so you'll have to contact us to find out if and what data we have. You'll first need to verify your identity by signing into Rumpus (you can always delete the Rumpus account later) and sending us the information request.

If you want to purge your account and all associated data, see the relevant help section.

Why we have your data

Our Privacy Policy explains in detail why we collect the data we collect. In general, we only collect enough information to verify your identity (via your email address), to provide services for you (via BscotchID and Rumpus), and to understand in the aggregate how our services are used (via access logs and similar).

Who we share your data with

As our Privacy Policy fully explains, we don't share your data with 3rd parties for marketing or related purposes. And we do not sell your data, period.

We do use 3rd party services to process and store your data (for example, to send emails and to host our web services), but those 3rd parties have extremely limited access to your data and are only allowed to use it on our behalf for purposes we explicitly allow, for example to help us fix bugs or recover lost data.

In general, we only collect enough information to verify your identity (via your email address), to provide services for you (via BscotchID and Rumpus), and to understand how our services are being used in the aggregate (via access logs, telemetry, and similar). We might share aggregate data with other 3rd parties, but if so that data will only contain averages and similar kinds of metrics that cannot be used to identify you or your account specifically.

How long your data is stored

As our Privacy Policy explains, we have strict policies on how long we store your data. In general, logs and backups are only stored for 30-90 days, so that if you delete your account all of your associated data will be purged or anonymized within that time.

Modify or delete your data

In general, you can modify any personal data we have about you! You can change your email address, change your Rumpus Alias, and manage your login sessions via the Rumpus account settings. You may delete your accounts at any time. It's likely that any personal data you want to edit/delete has a settings page somewhere, either on our websites or in our games.

Some data may not be deleted unless you also delete the associated account (e.g. your email address or Rumpus User ID).

Finally, in general you may not directly modify most game/app/service-generated data, as that would constitute "hacking" and/or violation of our Trade Secrets. However deletion of your account will also delete or anonymize all of your game data. If there is something you believe you should be able to modify or delete, but are unable to do so, please let us know.

What does "Delete or Anonymize" mean?

You might have noticed in our Terms, Privacy Policy, and throughout the support pages that when you delete your accounts we "Delete or Anonymize" all directly associated data. We completely delete all data that is directly tied to you as an individual human (your email address, usernames, login sessions, and any records of IP addresses you've used). We also delete all data that was only of use to you while you had an account with us (such as game progress data and support tickets). Any other data is no longer linked to you as a person when you delete your account, and so is effectively "anonymized". We may keep anonymized data that is useful to others, such as levels you have published in Levelhead, as per the "User Generated Content" section of our Terms.

How to lodge a privacy complaint

Good privacy practice is important to us, and if you believe we aren't holding up our end of the bargain we want to rectify that if possible. You can lodge a complaint with the relevant supervisory authority, though we hope that you'll contact us first to see if we can address your concerns.

Data is transferred out of the EU

Our services are generally hosted in the United States (US), so any data originating from the outside the US (including the EU) will be transferred to the US. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Download your data

You can download all of the personally identifying data we have about you (as well as much of the non-personal information attached to your account) via the "BscotchID-Link" and "Download Your Data" sections of your account settings.

We do not include log/telemetry data or data from backups (since these are always temporary), or non-personal, non-portable data that is only meant for our proprietary services (for example, game progress data).

We will continue to add account data to the download over time. If you believe that there is something missing from the data download, please let us know!

Transfer your data

In general it is not possible to transfer your data to another service/company, because almost all of the data we have on you comes from our proprietary games and services. Such data is not portable, as no equivalent services do or can exist without violating our intellectual property rights. Where legal, comparable services do exist, you are welcome to transfer your data (see the data download help).
